The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are autonomous public institutes of higher education governed by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007, which declared them as Institutions of National Importance alongside Indian Institutes of Technology. These institutes of national importance receive special recognition from the Government of India. The NIT Council is the supreme governing body of India's National Institutes of Technology (NIT) system and all 31 NITs are funded by the Government of India.
The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI) has established National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization for conducting efficient, transparent and international standards tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admissions to premier higher education institutions.
Admission test to Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI) and Institutions funded by participating State Governments, is JEE (Main) https://jeemain.nic.in conducted by NTA. The Paper-1 (B. E. /B. Tech.) of JEE (Main) will also be an eligibility test for the JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he is aspiring for admission to the undergraduate programs offered by the IITs.
The JEE (Main)-2019 will be conducted twice before admissions during this academic session.
